Every year I love making up guitar renditions of Christmas carols, just sitting by the tree and basking in the beauty of these melodies. Here are some of my favorites.
These arrangements are designed for early intermediate players on up. I play some pieces fingerstyle and some with a flatpick, but they are easily adaptable to different picking styles and rhythms.
Four of the arrangements are in standard tuning and five are in dropped D, which I use so much that it’s nearly a standard tuning for me. Two are in G6 tuning (with the bottom two strings tuned down to D and G), and one is in DADGAD. These alternate tunings offer lush open-string sounds and free up the fretting fingers to move around the neck.
